How many times do I profess to understand,
but not really.
Because I say I understand,
but there is the fiery need for me to be understood.
Which in the moment,
limits my ability to truly show compassion,
to really listen,
to really put aside myself,
my opinion,
my needs,
my wanting to be heard
at the same decibel.
What if I tried compassion first,
love first,
empathy first?
What if we all did?
Ah, good thoughts to ponder. I know my desire to be understood has sometimes eclipsed my ability to understand... His love, His compassion. I need that.
ReplyDeleteSo true, so true - so often it is about me.

Dear Jen
ReplyDeleteYou are speaking to me! I had such an opportunity to do that today, but did not do it enough times! I have found that we should never expect from others what they cannot give. Thank you for this still, yet profound Still Saturday message.
Much love
Mia
Oh, Jen, this is something I have been praying about lately -- to see with more compassionate eyes and get off my high horse.
ReplyDeleteI echo the others, I see myself in this. I'm visiting from Deidra's. :)
ReplyDeleteGood thoughts, Jen. You've worded it so well too.
ReplyDeleteSuch a few words with a message that packs a punch! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Something I've been praying about....to put compassion for others first. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteOne of the hardest truths about myself is how selfish I still am. Thank you for the encouraging thoughts!
ReplyDeleteVery true re: how we approach life much of the time. Focusing on others first, w/o a desire to be "first" in lives/hearts, is an everyday challenge often.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Good reminder. [And good photo, also, of course.]
I'm stopping by from Jumping Tandem's Sunday.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and wonderful words.
I hope you have a blessed week!
