ATKT Just for Fun and the Soli Deo Gloria Party!

Welcome to the Soli Deo Gloria party!
This is a place where women gather to encourage each other to live authentically,
sharing our heartbreaks, our joys, and the wisdom from God that sustains us.
Please, link up your heart with ours and encourage other's before you leave.  Only have time to read one?  Choose your neighbor -- no one wants to leave a party empty-handed!
If you would like to be a part of a Soli Deo Gloria small group, now is a great time to join.

Don't worry.  I look "serious" in this picture, but I'm probably just about to describe my Cow Parade Cows.  What are those?  Don't worry -- just click the video to find 1 of maybe 3 things that I do that are Just for Fun.

You see, I've realized perhaps I'm a bit too serious all the time.  And it's time to let my hair down (and put a cow in front of my face -- complete with ruby slippers) and just ramble about things that are Just For Fun.

If this doesn't prove that we can vlog about anything (like the Wizard of Oz Cows) at SDG, then nothing can.

**Note, if you are linking a vlog tonight, please place *vlog* in your caption.**

Across the Kitchen Table FAQs

Q:  What is "Across the Kitchen Table?"
A:  It is where we pretend that we all live close enough to walk to each other's houses, have a cup a tea, and share whatever is on our hearts.  It's an opportunity for us to see the authors behind the blogs and make sure y'all are actually living human beings and not robots.  (ha, ha!)

Q:  Do I have to have a vlog in order to link up this week?
A:  Absolutely not!

Q:  Does my video have to have a specific point?
A:  Um, no.  Today, I'm talking about cows.  Cows with ruby slippers.

Q:  Is it okay if I say "like" and "um" and "just" a lot in my video?
A:  Of course.  Remember, this is not about perfection.  This is about being real.

Q:  What would you say if I told you that I can't blog because I'm not pretty enough?
A:  I'd tell you that you are fearfully and wonderfully made by our Creator.  And that you need to join on Wednesdays for our series, "beheld in a different Light."

Q:  I didn't do a vlog today because I'm still trying to work up the courage.  Will you be doing this again?
A:  Yes!  Every first Monday of the month, I'll host another edition of "Around the Kitchen Table."

Q:  I have questions about how to make a vlog.  Can I contact you?
A:  Yep.  You can get me at jenfergie2000 @ me.  com.

Q:  How do you feel about link-up communities, Jen?
A:  If you join 'em, make sure you visit a few people that have linked up, too.  And leave an encouraging word for them, too.

Q:  Can we invite our friends?
A:  That goes without saying!  We are an all-inclusive community!

T.R.U.S.T. Question:  What do you do in life that is Just For Fun?

  1. I loved the big smile on your face in this video... :)

One thing that I have done for fun over the last year is play board games. My friend, Agnes, introduced me to Skip Bo, and it became a new favorite. I have hosted a couple of "game nights" with the girls, and we had a lot of fun.

  3. I WANT TO SEE THE ENTIRE CAST, JEN! The Wizard of Oz cows are hilarious! I know what you mean about that planning thing, and being serious. But there's something about teaching high school kids that keeps you laughing. And they're good at rearranging your plans, too. I vow to get set up to vlog this summer. You make me want to share, Jen!

  5. I'm so glad you're going to try to do things just for fun. No rules, no agenda. Just Jen being Jen. Love it.

So now I get why you were telling me about the different types of cows in Texas. Nice!

  6. PS: I know I didn't really follow along the exact guideline for this vlog, but I think it's funny how that is so very evident in the vlog itself :)

  7. Jen, just for fun...nothing much unless you count sitting on the porch and watching the animals. I'm hoping the next season of life will allow time for me to have fun again. It's been a long, long time since I've done anything fun...in time, in time...

  8. Jen, we have had a 'pig parade' here in Seattle, and I've seen one in New Orleans.....thanks for sharing yours. I look forward to hearing the results of your 'rainbow run.'
Thanks for urging us all to let our hair down........this has been fun.

  9. Just for fun? Thanks to my kids, we have plenty of just for fun moments. Mud pies. Round the house races under the moonlight. Capture the flag with glowsticks in the dark. Yeah, we love to play! Not sure how I'll "justify" all this fun when the kids move out! My daughter has always wanted to do a rainbow run. Sounds so fun!

  10. Just for fun. One of the things that I feel that I have lost along the way is FUN...I used to do many things just for fun. They are sooo many responsibilities now that it is easy not to do anything just for fun. Yet....when I asked my husband what one thing am I excellent at..he said, fun! So, perhaps it is not missing as much as I thought.Yet, I definitely have a serious side, too. And definitely have competitive edge as well. Thanks for explaining the color run -- I didn't know what it was. Enjoyed watching your vlog.

  11. How fun, Jen, to get to know you a little better...My husband is much better at fun than me, so I am learning...I love to be at a beach watching our puppy and our girl running around and having fun...plus, there is something about the ocean that calms me :)

  12. For fun? I love this question! I love to bake, go for a run, sit outside in the sun and read, hang out with my hubby in coffee shops, and walk to the candy shop with my kids!

  13. Oh this was a riot! I too am the serious type and definitely need to work on more "just for fun" things! I've heard the color runs are FUN. We have some local trail races that although they are timed, they are crazy hard and I do them just for fun, and end up muddy and a complete mess, but it's the most beautiful run ever. And I will also read YA dystopian books, sitting in the sun on the rare occasions we see it here in Michigan!

  14. My husband is the more serious one and I'm the fun one :) or so I like to think anyway :) But on the weekends we like to unplug, mostly, and just be as a family. We try to do at least one thing together as a family to connect. As a couple we are planning on doing a race called Rugged Maniac in Dallas. It's 3.1 miles and like 20+ obstacles, it doesn't get much more fun than that does it?

As always, enjoy seeing your smiling face..one day I'll do one too, maybe :0) You are brave!

  15. I so related to your VLOG, Jen. I like things to be neat and in (my) control! I am not good anymore at having fun. I used to be when life was a little more laid back. I used to ski and found that to be the most wonderful thing I did...both downhill and cross country. But I cannot do those anymore. Four surgeries in past two years told me that skiing may have been great but I am paying for it NOW! The surgeries weren't totally from skiing, I don't believe. I used to backpack and saw plenty of high country. I climbed to the top of Mt. Whitney! That was fun. BUT..now ...what do I do JUST FOR FUN: My husband and I have a small fifth wheel trailer that we bought about 3 years ago. We began taking two to three week adventures once a year with a 5-7 day one in between. The longer trips have been to West Texas, Big Bend NP, New Mexico thus far. Because I always needed to be able to get home for Mom just in case... we never just kept going. But we love getting out in nature and smelling the pine trees, seeing the beauty that God created, meeting neat people who RV also. This is our fun now and look forward to more of that in the future. I also read books and spend time in Barnes and Noble, Starbucks, and that is fun for me. I am surrounded by BOOKS!

  17. I always though I was not pretty enough, then God told me I was beautiful to Him.
